Hi, I'm Jordan Ellis — a passionate indoor gardener living in a 650 sq ft apartment in Miami, Florida.

In 2022 I killed 17 plants in a row. Every guide online assumed I already knew the basics. I got so frustrated that I started documenting everything I learned the hard way. That notebook became this website in early 2023.

GreenThumb Beginners was created for people just like me — total beginners who want beautiful indoor plants but have no idea where to start. No fancy Latin names without explanation. No "just water when dry" without telling you how to actually check. Just honest, tested, step-by-step advice that works in real apartments with real low light and real busy lives.

Today we have helped over 28,000 people keep their first plants alive and thriving. Every single article is written from personal experience, cross-checked with university extension services and master gardeners, and updated regularly based on reader feedback. This site exists because I wish it had existed when I started.

My goal is simple: help you succeed with your first five plants so you fall in love with indoor gardening the same way I did. Because once your first snake plant sends up a new leaf, or your monstera finally fenestrates, you’ll never look at houseplants the same way again.
